My understanding is that the Sorrowful and Vaguely Ethnic Wail came into vogue with Ridley Scott's Gladiator, and it's been mimicked countless times since. You have to admit, it can be effective; I think my favorite (unironic) use of it is during Gandalf's "death" in The Fellowship of the Ring, although Peter Jackson uses a Vaguely Elvish Wail throughout the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy.
See also
Glossary

A moon pie or MoonPie is a pastry which consists of two round graham cracker cookies, with marshmallow filling in the center, dipped in chocolate or other flavors. The traditional pie is about the size of a hockey puck, a smaller version exists (mini MoonPie) that is about half the size. The four main flavors are chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and banana. Two newer flavors, lemon and orange, are also available.
I don't know, y'all. "Pastry" may be pushing it a little. Depending on where you live, you may also know it as a Scooter Pie, a Wagon Wheel, or a Choco Pie.
Also, a number of moon pies--1500 or 4500, we're not sure--played a key part in Moonlight fandom's Busgate 2008.
See also
Food

Namechecked by New York Magazine
So I wrote that huge Breaking Dawn recap and then... it was linked and quoted on NY Mag's Vulture blog. I would have been thrilled, except that I was too busy trying to get onto the waitlist for the Witness Protection Program. Wait, it's about what?
Emo teenage girl moves to new town, meets mysterious boy, realizes he's a sparkling vampire; Greatest Love of All Time Omg ensues. In later books, a love triangle forms with the addition of a werewolf. Babies are of tantamount importance; going to college is not. Some readers rank the series up there with Pride and Prejudice and the works of Shakespeare; some readers... beg to differ. Severely.
Book discussion entries
Twilight
My thoughts on Twilight, let me show you them (May 14th, 2008): Includes my three theories on why the books are popular, plus ten things I really, really had a problem with. For starters.
I've held this as a general theory for a while, so listen up, nice guys (or Nice Guys), but maybe not for the reason you'd think. I actually don't think girls like a guy who treats them bad. But I do think they--we--get off a little on the idea of changing someone for the better, or the idea of having the power that someone loves us so much that he'll change o

---
I don't currently watch a lot of TV. I don't mean that in that terrible smarter-than-thou way; I mean that I spend so much time on the computer that my staring-at-screens quota is just full up. There's pretty much one show I actually plan on watching during the week, and that's Lost. But, like many things I do, when I get into something, I tend to do the hell out of it. I spent at least one year, maybe more, with nothing but Turner Classic Movies on twelve hours a day. I watch Twilight Zone marathons on the Sci-Fi Channel any time I can catch them. I was completely obsessed with The X-Files in high school and most of college, until the point where it started to suck and BROKE MY HEART. Well, I'll get to that in a moment.
Television entries on the wiki
Days of Our Lives
Empire
Lost
Moonlight
MST3K
True Blood
A Brief History of TV in My Life
The Nickelodeon years
Like any red-blooded American child, I lived on this channel for my entire childhood.
