My mother has a treasure trove of at least fifty, maybe more, old Nancy Drew books from the '50s and '60s tucked away in our attic. One day we discovered to our horror that the roof was leaking and managed to save the books, albeit with a little water damage here and there. Fortunately, the binding of the books was such that it kept most of the water out, so I embarked on a mission to air them out and then rebox them in a brand-new plastic container.
I had tried to read some of the books when I was very young, and had gotten bored with them--so here, at the ripe old age of twenty-seven, I thought that maybe I was old enough to really appreciate them, as guilty pleasures if nothing else.
After reading several of the books, well...
