Wailing woman frequently heard in Troy in Fifteen Minutes and, in fact, many historical epics. My understanding is that the Sorrowful and Vaguely Ethnic Wail came into vogue with Ridley Scott's Gladiator, and it's been mimicked countless times since. You have to admit, it can be effective; I think my favorite (unironic) use of it is during Gandalf's "death" in The Fellowship of the Ring, although Peter Jackson uses a Vaguely Elvish Wail throughout the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy.
